HMS Diamond got the chance to carry out an unusual training exercise when Charlton hopped aboard.

Charlton is a drug detection dog, and he carried out a search for drugs in a simulated exercise.

His trainer Natalie emphasised how this sort of training is not a regular occurrence for her or Charlton:

"We don't usually get this type of opportunity.

"It was a great piece of environmental training for us both, working on board ship is a rare occurrence for us and it was a hugely beneficial exercise."

HMS Diamond anchored off the coast of Cyprus where they went ashore to work alongside the RAF Air Component Command.

It also gave them a chance to pick up supplies to help them continue their mission.

The ship has been helping NATO track air movements in the Gulf region, in the ongoing fight against so-called Islamic State.
