Transport police in social media plea after WWI medals found at station

Can you help find the person who left two First World War medals behind near Vauxhall railway station?

That's exactly what the British Transport Police (BTP) are asking members of the public on social media to do, after staff found the items in south London.

Asking users to retweet an image of the medals, the BTP Ops Support Unit wrote: "People of Twitter please RT. WW1 medals. Name of 2LT F. Crossley. Found near Vauxhall railway station."

The medals appear to be the 1914-15 Star and the British War Medal (1914-1920).

More than 2,730,000 individuals, including some civilians and politicians, received the 1914-15 Star for service between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915.

The Imperial War Museum estimates 6.4 million received the British War Medal (1914-1920), which was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who entered a theatre of war or served overseas between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. 

This criteria was later broadened to services in other areas, including Russia and Siberia, in 1919 and 1920.
