A portrait of Captain Tom Moore will be donated to the Army Foundation College in Harrogate.

Artist Neil J Arms, from Penrith in Cumbria, will be donating the painting that was created to mark the NHS fundraiser's 100th birthday.

The painting, which features Capt Tom surrounded by a rainbow, will be given to the military college on 19 May.

Capt Tom was appointed as the first Honorary Colonel of the college last week by the Chief of the General Staff ahead of his centenary birthday.

Mr Arms announced on Facebook he was “extremely proud and honoured” to reveal the painting’s “new home” at the Army Foundation College.

“The Commanding Officer of the college has requested to personally take delivery of the painting as he believes the piece deserves that level of respect,” he said.

“I’m totally overwhelmed with pride as I write this.”

Capt Tom raised more than £32 million for the NHS, after walking laps of his garden in Bedfordshire.

His birthday last Thursday was marked by a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, organised by the RAF.

Army helicopters also flew over Capt Tom's home as part of the celebrations.

As well as the flypasts, the 100-year-old veteran also received more than 150,000 birthday cards and a personal message from the Prime Minister.

The Army Foundation College prepares 16 to 17-year-old junior soldiers for a career in the British Army.
