Triple amputee and former Royal Marine wins fundraiser of the year award

Former Royal Marine Mark Ormrod MBE, has been named the Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year.

In 2007, the veteran stood on an improved explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan, losing both of his legs and his right arm.

Having become the UK's first triple amputee to survive the conflict, Mr Ormrod was not held back.

The ex-Commando ran, cycled and swam to raise money for REORG, a charity that helps veterans transition out of the military through the martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Finally reflecting on his achievements and striving to hit £1 million in donations, Mr Ormrod said: "I think now I'm finally starting to soak it in.

"It's been a whirlwind couple of days since Saturday night and I really haven't had time to sit down and reflect and appreciate it all."

He added that "none of this was planned" but wants to live his life as fully as he can on behalf of those who helped his recovery process.
