The Defence Secretary has promised the long-awaited Defence Investment Plan (DIP) will be published before the Nato summit next month.

The document – which will replace the MOD's 10-year rolling equipment strategy – was due to be unveiled in the autumn but has been delayed.

During Defence Questions in the Commons, John Healey told MPs that it will be ready and made public by the meeting in Turkey on 7 July.

He said: "Part of the transformation of defence in the Defence Investment Plan, which I can tell the house the Prime Minister is determined to publish before the Nato summit."

Mr Healey was pressed by Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge on whether the DIP had been signed off by the Treasury.

He said: "I can say to him very clearly that the Prime Minister is determined that we publish the Defence Investment Plan before the Nato summit."

Mr Cartlidge replied: "No wonder the Defence Investment Plan is so late; Labour still haven't worked out [how to] pay for it."
