The Princess of Wales will not be attending the Colonel's Review as she continues her treatment for cancer, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

As Colonel of the Irish Guards, Kate would usually take the salute at the ceremonial event, which is the final evaluation of the Household Division one week before Trooping the Colour which marks the King's official birthday.

General James Bucknall, a former commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, will carry out the role of Inspecting Officer at the Colonel's Review on behalf of Kate as she continues her recovery.

Meanwhile, the King, who is also recovering from cancer, will attend Trooping the Colour on 15 June.

Charles is expected to inspect the soldiers from a carriage rather than on horseback as he did during last year's ceremony.

The King recently returned to public duties which included a visit to soldiers in his role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Engineers.

Kate is yet to return to public duties and was represented by Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw, Brigade Major of the Household Division, for the Brigade Major's Review of the Trooping of the Colour on Thursday.

The Brigade Major's Review is the first public rehearsal of Trooping the Colour.

It is followed by further rehearsals for the military spectacle, with the Major General's Review this weekend and then the Colonel's Review on 8 June.

Trooping the Colour is the highlight of the British military's ceremonial calendar.

Each year a different regimental colour is trooped, with the colour of Number 9 Company, Irish Guards, chosen for 2024.

Because Kate has not taken part in any public engagements since her cancer diagnosis it is unclear whether she will attend Trooping the Colour.
