The Prime Minister has said that talks of a truce in Ukraine are moving in a "positive direction" during a meeting of allied nations, following reports that Washington organised secret Ukraine-Russia peace talks in Abu Dhabi.

US Army secretary Dan Driscoll held negotiations in the UAE with Kyrylo Budanov, Kyiv's military intelligence chief, and a Russian delegation, reports said.

The talks in the Middle East were taking place as US president Donald Trump said that "something good just may be happening" on his TruthSocial platform regarding the prospect of brokering a peace deal.

Sir Keir Starmer has said that talks of a possible ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv were "moving in a positive direction" during a Coalition of the Willing meeting.

The meeting, co-hosted by France's president Emmanuel Macron and Sir Keir, follows the leaking of a 28-point peace plan drafted by Washington last week and Europe's counter-plan as leaders try to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Speaking at the meeting involving more than 30 nations, the PM said: "Progress was made, and I welcome some of the developments that have come forward.

"It was a chance to ensure that the draft plan fully reflects Ukraine's interests and lays the ground for a lasting peace."

The Prime Minister added that Kyiv had "proposed some constructive changes", which were supported by European national security advisers.

Bucharest has not confirmed what type of uncrewed aerial vehicles breached its airspace, and no injuries or damage have been reported after the incident.
