Watch: Russia completes test launch of intercontinental ballistic missile
Russia has shared footage of its latest test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
The test is believed to show the latest version of Russia's Topol missiles, known as the Topol-ME, with the intercontinental ballistic missile shown being launched in a video posted to RuTube – Russia's version of YouTube.
According to the Russian MOD, the test was successful and took place at the 4th State Central Inter-Service Test Range Kapustin Yar in the Astrakhan Region.
It said the launch was one of a number of tests of advanced missile systems, which also aimed to test the stability of the missiles in service with the Russian military.
The launch came after a US Army general warned that Russia was firing artillery shells at an alarmingly high rate compared to Ukraine, leaving the defenders at the risk of defeat.
General Christopher Cavoli, commander of European Command, said Russia was currently firing five artillery shells for every one fired by Ukrainian forces - and that disparity could increase in the coming weeks to 10 to one.
Numerous commentators have speculated whether Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to launch a new wave of attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes a Russian attack is planned in either May or June.
Russia has started launching more ferocious attacks more often, making it possible that his fears are well-founded.
Additionally, on a recent episode of the Sitrep Podcast, Tom Mutch of the Byline Times said without support Ukraine would run out of artillery ammunition.
He told Sitrep he'd heard from commanding officers in Kup'yans'k that the Russians had been keeping plenty of troops and armoured vehicles in reserve.
"They were saying effectively 'we think that they're getting ready for a much bigger push'," he said.
