Junior Soldiers get first taste of elite pace sticking competitions at Sandhurst

The junior soldiers finished third in a very competitive field of international teams

Five weeks after picking up a pace stick for the first time, Junior Soldiers from the Army Foundation College Harrogate got their first taste of the world-famous All Arms Pace Sticking Competition.

The Harrogate team had the chance to observe their more experienced competitors closely to see what they could pick up to improve their own performances during the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst competition.

Twenty-three teams from all over the world competed, some with decades of experience in the drills with pace sticks – used by British Army officers to measure the correct length of pace and distances between ranks on parade, as the video above explains.
