Russia introduces military training for children as young as 15 as school year starts

Russia is introducing a new military training module for 15 to 18-year-olds in an attempt to create a more security-focused society, according to Ministry of Defence intelligence.

The MOD says the training aims to raise the prestige of military service, instil patriotism, a duty of civic responsibility, and primarily prepare teenagers physically and mentally for military service.

The new module will be a part of the Foundations of Security and Defence of the Motherland programme introduced as the new school year begins.

The course has 68 teaching hours and its topics include combined arms combat and small arms familiarisation.

It is aimed at "forming values, acquiring knowledge and skills that ensure readiness to fulfil the constitutional duty to protect the state".

Moscow has also increased the number of children's summer camps which include military activities, according to the MOD.
