Princess Anne takes part in laying up of standards ceremony at Salisbury Cathedral

Princess Anne attends the laying up of standards ceremony at Salisbury Cathedral

The Princess Royal attended Salisbury Cathedral to lay up in retirement the standards of the Blues and Royals and the Lifeguards.

The standards were the last within the Household Cavalry to still bear the EIIR cypher of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Princess Anne, as Colonel of the Blues and Royals, entrusted their standard to the Dean of Salisbury Cathedral.

Elements of the Household Cavalry regiment are now based at Bulford, and the decision was made to lay their standards in Salisbury Cathedral as a way of cementing ties between the regiment and the community.

"The Household Cavalry, comprising The Life Guards and Blues and Royals, are immensely proud to be laying up the final set of Sovereign's Standards presented by Queen Elizabeth in 2014," saidLieutenant Colonel Ralf Griffin of the Household Cavalry.

"The regiments have driven their vehicles over Salisbury Plain since training for D-Day in 1944, to currently trialling the new AJAX vehicle fleet for the Army.

"Since 2019, the Household Cavalry Regiment has been stationed at Bulford, and there can be no greater demonstration of our commitment to Salisbury and Wiltshire than asking the cathedral to safeguard these sacred symbols of our history."

The late Queen's standards have a new, eternal home in the cathedral, as the regiment moves forward with new standards presented by the King, marked with the monarch's CIIIR cypher.
