Race the Sun 2024: Royal Signals soldiers push their fitness and skills to the limit

Watch: Soldiers compete against each other, putting their fitness and skills to the test

More than 300 soldiers have been putting their fitness and military skills to the test with the return of Race the Sun - a tough physical challenge.

The annual Royal Signals event started as an inter-squadron competition in 1990, allowing soldiers to demonstrate their athletic talents and enjoy the Yorkshire countryside.

Hosted by 2 Signals Regiment, this year saw the personnel compete against each other in various events including cross-country running, mountain biking, orienteering and a stretcher race.

Athletes from the corps – both regular and reserve – took part, racing in mixed teams against the clock to complete the elements with the lowest combined time.

The format changed last year to reflect the physical demands required and sporting preferences of the soldiers, while ensuring the essential elements of teamwork and resilience are maintained.

The winners from this year's event are:

First Place: 11 Sig (RSS) Sig Regt

Second Place: 14 Sig Regt (EW)

Third Place: 30 Sig Regt
