Gurkhas join forces to help alleviate drinking water shortage in Nepalese town
Gurkhas from the local community and abroad have joined forces to help alleviate the drinking water shortage facing the town of Dharan in Nepal.
The town is home to a large population of both serving and retired Gurkhas.
A £300,000 water supply improvement project has been completed with the support of the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
The charity's water projects bring clean water and sanitation to remote communities in Nepal.
Dharan now has the water capacity to cater for around 100,000 people per day.
According to the Gurkha Welfare Trust, last year, thanks to donations and help from UK Aid, it brought clean water to more than 5,600 households in Nepal, benefiting more than 30,000 people.
