Fire drill on the flight deck: HMS Queen Elizabeth crew tackle crash emergency exercise

Firefighters, aircrew and medical teams raced into action aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth during a major crash-on-deck exercise.

The drill brought together the ship's company and Standing Sea Emergency Party to rehearse the rapid response that would be required following a real-life crash landing on the flight deck.

Teams practised coordinating their efforts under pressure, from securing the scene and tackling the emergency to treating casualties and supporting the aircraft crew.

The training comes as HMS Queen Elizabeth continues her journey from refit to frontline operations following a major overhaul at Rosyth.

Britain's flagship is spending the autumn training with Royal Navy helicopters around the UK and eastern Atlantic, while also conducting trials involving drones.

One of Britain's most powerful surface warships, the carrier can operate as a command-and-control centre for UK and allied ships and aircraft, host senior naval staff and receive foreign dignitaries.
