Offshore meets inshore as HMS Tamar joins HMNZS Taupō for training in Auckland

One of the Royal Navy's offshore patrol vessels has joined her inshore New Zealand counterpart for some important training in the waters off Auckland.

HMS Tamar joined the Royal New Zealand Navy’s Lake-class inshore patrol vessel HMNZS Taupō for a recent training mission in the country.

"Fantastic to be back in Auckland and to conduct valuable training with HMNZS TAUPŌ during our pilotage in," wrote HMS Tamar on social media.

Taupō is one of New Zealand's two inshore patrol vessels.

She is designed for maritime surveillance and patrol missions around New Zealand's 15,000-kilometre coast.

HMS Tamar is currently taking part in a five-year deployment in the Indo-Pacific with her sister ship HMS Spey.

She has also worked closely with the New Zealand Defence Force in the past to tackle illegal activity in the waters off Fiji.
