West Country Boxers Take On Royal Navy

The Royal Navy boxing team has taken part in a special event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the West Country's best-known boxing venues

The trip to Bristol Sporting Club was part of preparation for their ongoing Australian tour.

The Royal Navy has a fine tradition in the south west, and was given a warm and competitive welcome from some of the region's most promising boxers.

Royal Marine Jamie Whittaker had one of the best bouts of the night, winning his fight. He said:
"It's a good show - the atmosphere's always great. It's a pleasure to box in a show like this."
In a night which did full justice to the occasion, the Navy's 2015 Young Sportsman of the Year Luke Fisher put up another good fight.

Fisher also won his fight, though on a split decision.

With several other close fights, it was an exciting evening.
