We Take A Ride On A B-52 Refuelling Flight

As rebellion in Iraq and civil war in Syria gather pace, the US Defense Department has decided to save the two biggest American air bases in Britain from the threat of closure.

The Pentagon had been looking to save costs in Europe. But it's been confirmed that both RAF Lakenheath and neighbouring Mildenhall in Suffolk will both continue to operate despite a combined budget of £255m a year.

RAF Mildenhall is home to the US Air Force's 100th Air Refuelling Wing, a vital element in projecting US and allied air power.

Forces TV reporter Geoff Meade was the only television correspondent aboard a flight from there on the day of the reprieve.
