Keeping his hand in: First Sea Lord hits the range with his fellow marines and the KS-1

The head of the Navy, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, has delivered an impressive grouping on the ranges during a visit to 40 Commando.

Despite attending the unit for a showcase on future drone capabilities, the First Sea Lord still found time to get on the range with the Knights Armament KS-1 – the primary, general-use rifle of the Future Commando Force.

Designated as the L403A1, the 5.56x45mm assault rifle boasts a muzzle signature reduction system, an improved optical sighting system and, unlike the SA80 L85 assault rifle, is fully ambidextrous.

His visit to the unit coincided with the opening of the new Anzio range, formally marked by a plaque, with the naming of the range serving as an ode to the 1944 Battle of Anzio.

In a post on X, Gen Sir Gwyn said it had given him the opportunity to "dust off the cobwebs".
