Afghan Illustrations: Drawing From the Front

Royal Artillery Captain Alex Biddulph has published a series of sketches drawn while on operational tour in Afghanistan.

‘Drawing the Front Line’ paints a picture of life on the front in one of the most war-torn countries on earth.

Captain Biddulph was one of the last troops to leave Helmand Province on the final day of combat operations. He had this to say about his book

"It came about after I sketched as a means of passing time between patrols. By the end of the six month tour I had amassed a book full. Following encouragement from others I decided to publish and saw this as an opportunity to also help raise money for charity.”
"Following encouragement from numerous people I decided to publish my drawings for a wider audience, and in the process of doing so raise money for two great charities ABF, 'the soldiers' charity' and Blesma, for limbless veterans."

"During the deployment I was employed as a fire support team commander and our team would patrol the areas to the south of Camp Bastion in order to protect the base and also the aircraft flying in and out. Our job was to observe possible targets and control artillery, mortars and precision strike assets.

"It now feels great to be safely at home, seeing my family, friends and enjoying a cold beer or two, however I enjoyed the deployment and worked with some great people."
