Armed Forces Commissioner reaffirms commitment to forces community in Cyprus

Polly Miller-Perkins took up the role on 30 March of this year

The new Armed Forces Commissioner has said she will examine issues affecting service families, housing, and the wider military community as she takes up her new role.

Polly Miller-Perkins, a former Air Commodore who served for more than 30 years in the Royal Air Force, spoke to BFBS Forces News following her appointment to the position.

Asked how her role will improve life for service personnel and their families, she said it will "reinvigorate and reinforce" the complaint system within the Armed Forces.

"They'll feel that they've got an independent advocate," she said, adding that aside from outreach, she can speak to networks, charities and the MOD when they decide that there is an issue that is important.

Independent of the MOD, the Armed Forces Commissioner serves as a champion for military personnel and their families and as a channel for raising general welfare concerns that affect their service lives, such as housing, service quality, equipment adequacy, and unacceptable behaviour.

In our video above, BFBS Forces News speaks to Ms Miller-Perkins to understand more about how this will be implemented during her tenure.
