Backbenchers Vote to Keep Meeting NATO Defence Spending Target

Backbench MPs from both sides of the Commons have united in a call for all party leaders to promise more defence spending.

They voted overwhelmingly in favour of a motion calling for Britain to keep meeting the NATO defence spending target of two per cent of national income.

Independent experts say that would cost another £3 billion next year, but they actually expect more defence cuts whoever wins the election.
