The 150 acre site, which houses more than 300 memorials to the armed forces, is redeveloping its exhibition and education areas.

The Royal British Legion is hoping the new centre will cater for half a million visitors each year, educating people about British and Commonwealth service personnel killed on active service since the Second World War.

Andrew Baud, from the National Memorial Arboretum, said:
"... when the Armed Forces Memorial was dedicated in 2007, our visitor numbers shot up from 60,000 people a year to 300,000 people a year. And all the predictions are that that is going to half a million people a year so this new remembrance centre is desperately needed."
Our reporter Carla Prater has been for a sneak preview of the progress so far...
