UK Armed Forces Karting Championship heats up at Fulbeck ahead of penultimate round

The UK Armed Forces Karting Championship is beginning to heat up after karting teams from across the military completed round five of the championship at Fulbeck Kart Circuit in Grantham.

Military teams failed to make the podium in the first endurance race, which was won by kart 25, team 7Kart, as kart 69 from RAF Lossiemouth finished highest of all the military teams, in 5th place.

Pole sitters kart 150 from RAF Waddington Vulcans fell all the way down to eighth – whereas Army kart number 6 from the REME made up 14 places to finish seventh.

The military teams fared a lot better in the second endurance race with kart 51 from the RAF Waddington Vulcans taking the victory after starting in seventh place.

Kart 46 from the RNRM Fleet Air Arm II finished on the podium in third with civilian kart 84, named Marriage Counselling, splitting the military teams in second.

The third endurance race saw an all-military team lockout on the podium with kart 46 from the RNRM Fleet Air Arm II taking the victory after starting fifth place on the grid.

Kart 71 from RAF Brize Norton Knights I started sixth to finish second on the podium, while kart 45 from RNRM Fleet Air Arm I retained their starting position to finish third.

In the final of the Premier Race, RAF driver Jack Goring took the victory from pole position over civilian driver Jack Twilley.

Army driver Ian Hodgkiss finished on the podium in third – while also clocking the fastest lap of the race with a 53.876.

The UK Armed Forces Karting Championship moves to its penultimate round at Rowrah Kart Track in Cumbria on 25 and 26 September.
