Fallon Rejects £1 Billion Defence Cuts Reports

Michael Fallon has rejected reports that the defence budget is facing £1 billion of cuts in the next few weeks.

The Defence Secretary told the Times newspaper he’ll be negotiating with the Chancellor, and says he'll fight so that the Armed Forces have what they need to keep Britain safe.

The US Secretary of Defense, meanwhile, has publicly called for the UK to continue spending at least two per cent of national income on the military, in line with NATO's target level.

Ashton Carter has warned that the UK risks becoming disengaged from the world otherwise.

Forces TV's Kate Gerbeau, meanwhile, spoke to MP Dr Julian Lewis, one of the candidates to become chairman of the Defence Select Committee.

He argued that defence spending shouldn't be restricted to just two per cent of national income.
