Funeral Takes Place For 90 Year-Old D-Day Veteran

The funeral has taken place of a 90-year-old D-Day veteran.

Denis Cruse was one of the first to land in northern France during Operation Tonga.

A quiet end for a man who’d seen so much action during his early years.

Denis Cruse parachuted into northern France in the early hours of 6th June 1944.

He and his comrades landed behind enemy lines 6 hours before the D-Day sea-borne assault.

Their mission was to capture bridges – including Pegasus – and stop the Germans using them to bring in re-enforcements to the Normandy beaches.

In 2015 Denis was awarded the Legion D’honneur for his part in the liberation of France.

Today his funeral was a moment to remember the man but also the soldier who risked so much for his country.
