Tri-Service

From Invictus To Military Masterchef

Two years ago, 'Lady Masham', the owner of a country estate in Ripon, created Yorkshire's first military masterchef competition.

It saw recovering servicemen and women compete to create the best dish.

Now, it's back, and former Royal Marine and Invictus Games gold medallist Alex Krol is giving it a go.

He's aiming to improve on his current culinary repertoire of beans on toast.

It's quite a switch from formerly dominating the tennis court and bringing back a gold from Orlando.

Mentoring Alex in his new role is Richard Allen, Executive Chef at The Orangery Restaurant:
"I've never actually taught anyone to cook in a wheelchair before, so obviously there's a height restriction. He can't get to the bench as well as other people can, but he seemed to manage."
Thankfully, Alex seemed to take to cooking very well, with Richard Allen admitting he'd offer him a job if he could.

Alex now needs to practice the cooking techniques he's learnt on his own, though he may put Richard on speed dial for any last minute emergencies...
