Island Of Sirens: Spouses Taste Forces Life In Cyprus
A group of civilians has been getting a taste of military life at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
28 wives, dependents and civil servants took part in Exercise Siren Song.
Spread over two days, the exercise was designed to educate and entertain military spouses.
They got to do things like shooting and taking a flight in a Griffin helicopter.
One wife said that things were perhaps more challenging for her husband than her:
"He was saying how difficult his exercises are, so I thought, 'right, I'll put it to the test myself'. And I mean, I don't know what the fuss is about - it's really easy!"
The exercise last took place in 2011.
Thanks to Operation Shader, since then, the base has become the RAF's busiest operational station and the group also got to experience some of this military aviation.
They got a flight across the base to Akrotiri's port complex, where they stayed overnight and did a final navigation exercise the following morning.
