Man Who Spat In Disabled Veteran's Face Avoids Jail

A man has who spat in a disabled RAF veteran's face after an argument over a parking space has avoided jail.
Jason Savage, 34, who has an unstable personality disorder, admitted assaulting Mr Bruise De Faoite in a Canterbury ASDA car park in April, according to local reports.
He also pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment after he threatened to burn down a woman's house in August.
Savage was given a 120-day prison sentence, suspended for one year, and was ordered to pay £170 costs, a £115 victim surcharge and £100 compensation to the former RAF man.
Julie Farbrace, prosecuting, said the ex-serviceman was reversing from a disabled parking space Savage, driving a silver BMW, blocked him in. She told Thanet Magistrates Court:
"He seemed oblivious. The former RAF man beeped his horn, then he went back into the space. Savage asked him what his problem was and then said 'I'll cut you up'."
Savage then spat at him. Miss Farbrace said the veteran was in fear for his safety and his eye was stinging, after mucus hit him in the face, covering his glasses.
He then had to wait for three months to have a blood test in case the defendant was HIV positive.
The court also heard that a female neighbour had reported threats from Savage to burn her house down, after which she was so frightened she moved her children elsewhere. Russell Morling, defending, said:
"He is appalled by his actions. He is particularly appalled by the spitting incident. He shouldn't behave like that."
He said Savage took medication for his mental problems, but had run out and hadn't taken any on the days in question.
