"The MoD Must Sell its Assets"

Some of Britain’s airbases, barracks, and military vehicles face being sold off to help the Ministry of Defence save money.

The Defence Secretary has delivered a keynote speech in London saying the job of reforming Britain’s defence is not finished, and that assets must be sold.

And with warnings of more spending cuts after the next election, Mr Fallon has told Forces TV that the government has shown they can be made through increased efficiency rather than cuts to the military.

The comments come amid complaints about the scale of cuts to the Armed Forces, with the size of the Army being cut by a fifth to 82,000 and plans to make up the shortfall with reserves.

Prime Minister David Cameron has also refused to commit to maintaining Britain's defence spending at 2% of GDP after the election.

James Hirst reports from Westminster, where Shadow Defence Secretary Vernon Coaker also talked about potential cuts to defence spending.

Meanwhile, Forces TV has been investigating how valuable former Ministry of Defence land is and how can it be used.

Will Inglis went to see how an MoD facility closed just a year ago is about to find a new lease of life, while Simon Newton has been looking at how the potential of another site is being realised.
