Politicians Urged to Maintain Defence Spending After Election

Pressure is growing on top politicians to protect Britain’s defence spending after the general election.

The chairman of the Defence Select Committee has backed a cross-party call led by two former ministers to keep meeting the NATO target of spending two per cent of national income on the military.

The chancellor has again refused to promise to keep meeting the target, whilst Labour has also previously refused to make the pledge.

James Hirst reports.
