Preparations For Clacton Airshow Continue After Shoreham Disaster
Preparations for the Clacton Airshow in Essex are continuing, with the event taking place on Thursday and Friday this week.
It comes after a Hawker Hunter jet crashed whilst taking part in an air show display in Shoreham on Saturday.
11 people are believed to have died. Among those confirmed to have been killed is Maurice Abrahams a 76-year-old former member of the Grenadier Guards and Parachute Regiment.
Organisers of the Clacton event say it will go ahead as planned following the disaster, however.
Tendring District Council, which runs the show, said it had taken advice from its flight consultants, and that Clacton is significantly different to Shoreham because most of the flying takes place over the sea.
Council spokesman Nigel Brown was quoted as saying by the BBC:
"Safety is, and always will be, our primary concern at all times."
The Hawker Hunter that crashed at Shoreham was based in Essex, but wasn't due to appear at Clacton.
An initial report into the disaster is expected to be issued in the next few days.
Investigators say final checks are being made at the crash site to ensure all aircraft parts have been collected.
Floral tributes have been left at the site where the jet crashed onto the A27.
