£20 Million Awarded To New Headley Court

£20 million from banking fines is to be spent on the new Defence Rehabilitation Centre that will replace Headley Court.

It’s the largest award from a total of more than £100m announced by the Chancellor in his Autumn Statement.

The money will be divided between 101 projects from military and emergency services charities, including funds offering ex-forces personnel the chance to launch media careers.

Stanford Hall, which has stood for three centuries, now has builders working hard to turn it into the new Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre.

The treatments and care currently given to injured personnel at Headley Court, Surrey, will eventually move there.

The 'defence' part of this rehabilitation centre should be finished and caring for patients by 2018 – in two years time.  A civilian wing to the project will come later.

Among the projects and charities are ABF The Soldier's Charity, which is getting £3m to improve childcare and community centre facilities for Army families.

Combat Stress is to receive £2m to care for veterans with complex mental health issues.

Our Wilton Trust is getting £2m towards building the UK's first veteran's enterprise hub, providing training and employment opportunities.

And RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus is to receive almost £2.5m for a welfare and families centre for personnel deployed on operations and for service families.

Funds have also been awarded to the Army Benevolent Fund, the Invictus Games and other good causes.
