More than 3,000 people have been killed after the country experienced a 7.9 magnitude earthquakewith survivors also under threat from aftershocks.

It comes a month after RAF transport aircraft set off to deliver vital shelter and relief supplies to the South Pacific island of Vanuatu, to help people affected by Cyclone Pam.

Captain Tim Bradshaw, who is leading a British Army team that's attempting to climb Mount Everest, and is currently stuck on the northern side, said the quake had felt violent and aggressive and that he and his fellow climbers could hear rocks cracking around them.

Both his BAEW15 team and the Gurkha 200 team on the other side of the mountain are reported safe.
