RFA Argus Deployed To... Bournemouth

Ahead of sea training this Autumn the RFA Argus has sailed from Plymouth destined for the Bournemouth airshow.

The hospital ship has been in Devonport for repairs ahead of a busy programme having operated at a high tempo over the last few years.

She was on standby during the Libyan campaign and most recently deployed again at short notice to Sierra Leone for the ebola mission.

The fleet auxillary may not be as operationally focussed now, but it's back to work as normal for the crew.

One of RFA Argus's roles is as a casualty receiving ship. She's even kitted out with the world's only floating CT scanner, making it an ideal training location for the Navy's medical staff.

The last time RFA Argus was used as a casualty receiving ship was during the most recent Iraq War.

It is another of her main role's as a deck landing training platform that keeps her busy.

The deployment to the Bournemouth Airshow has provided an opportunity for 40 new reservist officers to finalise their training at sea.

Argus will spend some time in Falmouth following the airshow before returning to Devonport for operational sea training.
