Across England, the ABA Championships have seen the best amateur boxers compete in the final stage.

There were three military competitors in action, with two from the Army and one from the Royal Navy.

For the Navy’s George Crotty, it was disappointment at the final hurdle.

He lost by a split decision to Aaron Bowen, who was the heavy favourite in the Manchester crowd.

The Army’s Tori Ellis-Willets kicked off the military action with a tough test in the form of Chloe Watson.

A close fight followed, but a unanimous decision meant Ellis-Willets became a two-time national champion, despite missing the last 10 months through injury.

In one of the headline bouts on the card, the Army’s Natty Ngenwa was under pressure after defeats at this stage for the past three years.

This time, it was a successful night as he knocked Thomas Pogson down twice to take the much sought-after national belt.

In Scotland, Megan Reid won in the finals while in Wales, Army boxers Ben Rees-Davies and Kyle Morrison are through to the semi-finals.
