Army's Nathan Pearce among military personnel in big roles behind scenes of Commonwealth Games

All eyes are on the four military personnel taking part at this year's Commonwealth Games – but what about the people who are making it work away from the action?

It's been revealed that Army boxing's Nathan Pearce was selected to lead and organise the boxing competition as competition manager.

The Operations Manager for Army Boxing has previously helped at Commonwealth Games in other roles.

Army Sport said: "This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the respect and reputation he has earned throughout the boxing community.

"Having previously supported the Commonwealth Games in other capacities, being entrusted with this senior role highlights Nathan's dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the sport.

"Nathan is a true role model, not only for Army Boxing but also for England Boxing, and we couldn't be prouder to see his hard work recognised on such a prestigious stage."

He's not the only military personnel worth highlighting. UK Armed Forces weightlifting will help manage the running of the weightlifting competitions.

Armed Forces personnel will also raise the Commonwealth flag at the opening ceremony and the national flags of the gold, silver and bronze medallists at every medal ceremony as the winning nation's national anthem plays.

"It wouldn’t be a national sporting event without our Armed Forces delivering ceremonial duties and competing for spots on the podium," said Veterans and People Minister Calvin Bailey.

"Sailors, soldiers and aviators have been competing at the highest levels of international sport for several years and are backed by the military to do so. 

"The chance to fulfil your sporting potential is just one of the many unique opportunities that come with military service, from experiencing travel and adventurous training, to gaining modern qualifications that remain in demand post-service."
