'It's win or nothing at all': 2 PARA prepare for Army Boxing Finals showdown
The 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment have been busy preparing for their showdown with the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment at the Army Inter Unit Boxing Finals, which are set to take place in Aldershot.
2 PARA will be going into the finals having previously won the title in 2018, and head coach Sergeant Dan Holmes thinks that they are going in as "the heavy favourites" and that "it's win or nothing at all".
He said: "It's always a hard season for us, but we never enter a season just to do well, we enter to win every time, it's win or nothing at all.
"I respect the Anglians and I respect the other teams, but I think that just sharpens our focus that much and we are the favourites to win.
"And the pressure does build on us and we handle that pressure really well."
The 2 PARAS made it to the final after they beat 1 YORKS in their semi-final in Colchester, winning by a margin of seven bouts to two.
2 PARA team captain Private Ryan Walker said that the team is "nothing but confident" going into the final.
He said: "It's obviously a privilege to work and lead these men but, at the end of the day, we are all equals, we are all fighters, we are just there for each other, at the end of the day.
"When you are walking out and they are all cheering, it's a good feeling and it does make a massive difference.
"We have got some good lads, good fighters in the team and we are nothing but confident for this final."
2 PARA boxer Private Zak Andrews says that he "genuinely" believes that the 2 PARAS will win this season.
He said: "I think regardless of the team we are facing, it's just blank faces and our goal remains the same, and I genuinely believe that we will win this season.
"At this level of boxing, boxing doesn't set a man apart, it's how far he is willing to go and I speak on behalf of our boxing team.
"This team is willing to go further than any other team."
The night of action will be broadcast on the Forces News YouTube Channel on 27 April with a 19:00 start time while serving personnel can watch on catch-up via BFBS TV.
