British Army retains the overall title in week-long Services Offshore Regatta

Sailors from across the services compete in the Services Offshore Regatta

The British Army have retained the overall title in this year's Services Offshore Regatta after the week-long contest took place in the English Channel.

They narrowly edged out the Royal Navy by a single point, after teams completed offshore and inshore passage races before rounding off a week of racing in the Taittinger Regatta in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.

Each service competed in an IRC class boat, with the RAF utilising the IRC handicap system due to their J109 boat having a lower rating than the Navy and the Army's Sun Fast 3600s.

The remaining teams raced in the Cruiser class in their Hallberg-Rassy 342 boats.

In the offshore series, the Royal Navy cruised to victory with five points to win the Trieste Cup, with the Army finishing behind on seven points and the RAF on 13.

The Army bounced back to lift the ASA Trophy in the inshore series with 10 points compared to the Navy's 13 and the RAF's 17.

With the points rounded up, the Army came out ahead on 17 points, just one point ahead of the Navy on 18 points.

The RAF finished third on 30 points.

This result means the Army retain the overall team title and they lift the Madden Bowl trophy another year.
