The women's Inter Services T20 cricket competition has been abandoned and set for rescheduling after a soggy June day in Arundel, West Sussex.

Covers on the entire square were in place from the morning, when the first of the three games was due to begin at 10:00 local time.

With a festival of cricket planned around the competition itself, including catering, hospitality and games for travelling schoolchildren, organisers had a keen eye on the sky to check for breaks in rain, but each brief pause in precipitation lasted a matter of minutes before the next squall arrived.

Players anticipated another day of highly exciting action, especially in the context of last year's nail-biting Army win in their final over against the Royal Air Force.

However, a sea of umbrellas provided the only real colour, protecting spectators from the elements in front of the pavilion.

The competition will now be rescheduled, date to be confirmed.
