Navy sinks Fleet Town's Hampshire Cup hopes with commanding second-round win

Watch: The Navy seniors win big against Fleet Town in Hampshire Cup second round.

The Royal Navy senior men's team have progressed to the third round of the Hampshire Cup after a commanding 1-3 win against civilian side Fleet Town FC.

A damp Tuesday night provided tricky playing conditions for both teams, but it was Kieran Feeney who got the Navy onto the score sheet after 21 minutes, scoring into the corner of the net for a 0-1 lead.

The Navy doubled their advantage at 31 minutes after a well-played shot from a distance by Elliott Holmes, putting the Navy up 0-2 come half-time.

Fleet Town looked to claw their way back into the game in the second half, and a handball in the Navy defence gave them that opportunity.

Connor Young stepped up to take the penalty successfully to pull a goal back on the Navy at 1-2.

The Navy did well to prevent an equaliser and, with minutes to spare, Elliott Holmes scored a brace to all but seal a 1-3 victory for the Navy.

The Navy will progress on to round three of the Hampshire Cup where they will face Wessex League side Hamble Club FC.
