Watch: The Royal Navy narrowly beat United Services Portsmouth FC in the first round of the Hampshire Senior Cup

The Royal Navy senior men's team have advanced to the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup after beating United Services Portsmouth FC where they drew 3-3, before the Navy won 4-3 on penalties at HMS Temeraire's Victory Stadium.

The game marked the first time the Royal Navy and United Services Portsmouth FC had met in an official match, having previously played each other in friendly fixtures.

This was also the first official game under the direction of their new head coach Lieutenant Commander Chris James, who was appointed to the role to replace Chief Petty Officer Mark Feighery, who has left the Navy.

Lt Cdr James made the step up to the Royal Navy Senior's head coach after he lead the Royal Navy U23 team to the Inter Services title earlier this year.

The Navy now advance to the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup where they will play in Fleet on a date that is yet to be confirmed.
