UKAF prepare for Remembrance fixture at Wolves' training facility

The UK Armed Forces women's football team have been training at Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of their Remembrance fixture against Everton Academy.

Wolves' Compton Park training facility provided a fantastic venue for the military players to sharpen their skills ahead of the match in Widnes – which you can watch full coverage of on the Forces News YouTube channel from Thursday November 10.

During the day, the players and staff also paid respect at the Wolverhampton Cenotaph by laying a wreath.

"We understand as service people all of us how important this week is," said UKAF head coach Flight Sergeant Karl Milgate.

"What better way to do it on a pitch together as one with poppies on our shirts. What an amazing opportunity for all of them."

The experience at Wolves is not one that many players in the military have the chance to have including coaching from some of the team's top coaches.

UKAF's squad list was announced on social media, below.

UKAF and Royal Navy defender Leading Engineering Technician Ciara Boylan said: "Being with the UKAF set-up, this is probably the best facility that we've had available to us.

"Usually with military set-up, it's not looked after like it is here. I think personally and as a squad, we are really grateful to get this opportunity."

This is the second year in a row that UKAF have played high-profile academy opposition after a 2-1 loss to Chelsea Academy last year.

It's a win they are looking for this time around.

"Our standards are high and I think they should be high," said LET Boylan.

"Looking at the performance we had against Chelsea last year, we should be going into this wanting to win."

Flt Sgt Milgate added: "We never plan to lose a game. We didn't last year. This year will be tough again  but at the end of the day, we go there to win a game of football."

You can watch UKAF's clash with Everton Academy in full from 10 November on the Forces News YouTube channel.
