RAF driver Ryan Martin wins AFVRC eMotorsport title

Watch: RAF's Corporal Ryan Martin takes the AFVRC championship title after an exciting final round at Donington Park.

Royal Air Force driver Corporal Ryan Martin has won the championship title of the Armed Forces Virtual Racing Challenge in an exciting end to the 10-week racing series at Donington Park.

The championship decider came after Cpl Martin, who was leading the championship coming into the final round, had to miss last week's round at Silverstone due to operational commitments with the RAF.

His absence led to a three-way race to the title which also included fellow RAF drivers Stu McFadden and Chris Pauley.

With Martin starting the first race in third place on the grid, McFadden took pole position with Will Foulkes starting in second.

After Martin got off to a poor start, he managed to retain his third place with McFadden winning the first race to close the gap on Martin in the drivers championship.

Pauley could only manage seventh, effectively ruling him out of the hunt going into the final race.

In the final race, a 10-place grid spin saw Michael Clough lead things from the front, with Chris Slator in second and Darren Berris in third.

Disaster struck for championship contender Stu McFadden, who endured a double shunt that forced his early retirement and ended his championship hopes.

McFadden's retirement opened the door for Pauley to potentially clinch the championship if Martin failed to finish in the top 24.

Pauley managed to grab the lead from Will Foulkes, but Foulkes fought back well and took the win in the final race of the championship.

Martin worked his way through the field to finish fourth, which was enough to secure his claim on the AFVRC championship title.

Pauley finished second and McFadden, as a consequence of his retirement, slipped down to third.

The RAF win the team title by a huge margin from the Royal Navy and the British Army.
