Military riders compete at British Motocross championships

WATCH: Which military rider shone at the Motocross National championships?

Several military riders joined more than 250 bikers competing in round three of the British Motocross championships.

The third round of action was held at Dalton Barracks in Abingdon on the Oxford Moto Parc course – considered to be one of the best motocross locations in the country.

Army competitor Warrant Officer Class 1 (Regimental Sergeant Major) Kalem Hicks had an impressive weekend on course.

He’s been riding since he was five years old and has more than 30 years' experience in Enduro.

This is his first season in Motocross which is a very different type of racing over a much shorter course but despite that, WO1 (RSM) Hicks finished fourth and eighth in two races on Saturday.

On Sunday, he started the day inside the top five rankings but had to settle for two ninth-placed results.

"It's first year and the expectations can't be too high," said the Army star.

"But the competitive spirit in me is a little bit disappointed that I'm not there fighting for the podium."

Corporal Ben Jones of the Army Air Corps also had a pretty eventful time in this Clubman MX1 class race.

An early crash knocked him to the back of the pack but a solid performance resulted in a recovery and a respectable finish in the middle of the order.
