The British Army men's rugby union team have won the opening match of their Southern Hemisphere tour against the Royal New Zealand Army in South Palmerston.

Sentiki Nayalo, who also stars for Championship side Coventry, scored two tries and helped the Army to a 45-38 win.

Other scorers for the men in red included Michael McDonald, Solo Radianirova, Connor O'Reilly, Rhys Roberts and Matt Dawson.

Jack Johnson also added 10 points with his boot from conversions, and the physical nature of the match was on show with Nayalo and Frank Kelly both receiving yellow cards during the 80 minutes.

The Army will now turn their focus to Saturday's clash with the Fijian Army.
