Irish prepare for IDRC campaign with commanding win following cancelled Zambia match
The Irish Defence Force look ready to start their IDRC campaign after a commanding 32-7 win against the team from Rugby Against Cancer.
The game against the civilian side came after their original Pool A game against Zambia was called off after the Zambian team wasn't able to make the trip in time for their opening fixture.
This means that the Irish have been given a bye in their opening fixture.
The Irish hit the ground running in the first half, with Chloe Farrell and Sophie Donnelly emerging as the two try scorers to lift them to a 19-0 lead at half time.
Patricia Coote hammered in another try for the Irish in the opening stages of the second half, before they eventually conceded one try to the civilian side thanks to Tallulah Sim and a conversion by Ella Jenkins to bring their score up to 24-7.
Coote was on hand again to take a penalty for the Irish, which she converted for an extra three points.
The Irish continued their excellent run of form in the closing stages of the game, and Caoimhe Molloy dived over for another try, which saw their opening game end with a commanding 32-7 victory.
The Irish Defence Force now turn their attention to their game against the UK Armed Forces on 21 August, who are sitting at the top of Pool A following their 17-try extravaganza against Tonga.
