The UK Armed Forces basketball teams produced a brilliant double victory at Sydney Comets Stadium, sweeping new opponents New South Wales Fire and Rescue to inject fresh momentum into their Australian Tour Series.
Switching focus after a gruelling opening series against the Australian Defence Force, both the UKAF men's and women's squads capitalised on fresh competition to lock in back-to-back wins.
The UKAF men had to dig deep after a sluggish opening, finding themselves trailing 13-16 at the half-time break.
The team regrouped during half-time and and when the players returned to the court, they blew the game open in the final two quarters.
Dominating both ends of the floor, UKAF stormed past the firefighters with a blistering second-half display to seal a 44-22 victory.
In the women's clash, UKAF set the tone early after building a 19-13 half-time cushion.
UKAF maintained control throughout the second half, repelling every Australian fightback to close out a tough 31-26 triumph.
The Sydney victories deliver a much-needed shot in the arm for the UKAF tour. The men had kicked off their Australian campaign with a nail-biting one-point win in Canberra, but subsequently suffered three straight setbacks against the ADF (59-69, 62-75, and 67-73).
The UKAF women faced an even tougher initial run against the ADF, enduring a four-game slide (37-58, 27-48, 48-65, and an agonising 47-49 defeat).
With two clinical wins now in the books, both UKAF squads head into the next phase of their Down Under tour with renewed energy and belief.
