WBC Muay Thai champion Dani Butler shares knowledge with Army

British Army Muay Thai received a boost this week as female competitors were given a helping hand by WBC Bantamweight British Champion Dani Butler.

Butler, who was preparing for a bout against Leonie Hardman at Combat Fight Series 25, was at the Army's gym in Aldershot to pass on her knowledge to the service's growing female community in the sport.

She was an invited guest for the Army's first-ever women's-only Muay Thai seminar.

"I think [the sport] has got a lot more popular definitely since I first started when I was younger," said Butler, who is currently ranked 30th in the World Muaythai Organization Bantamweight World Ranking.

"Not a lot of people knew what Muay Thai was. Now, I feel like a lot more people train in it and it's a lot more common."

When asked what military characteristics transfer to the sport, she said: "Discipline, massively. You can tell when people are in the Army and they're training. You can see their discipline with the training."

Air Trooper Frankie Woods was one of the female competitors who worked with Butler during the session, and she's thankful for the chance.

She said: "To have the opportunity to even train next to someone with her standards is amazing for us women as well.

"Her knowledge, her expertise and her technique as well. Everyone says that she is so fluid with her technique so to just watch her is amazing as well."
