Royal Marine Lawrence and Hall miss out on world medal in two-man bobsleigh

Royal Marine Taylor Lawrence and pilot Brad Hall have narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the two-man bobsleigh at the World Championships in Winterberg.
The GB1 crew clocked a combined time of 3 minutes 99 seconds, just 1.2 seconds adrift from the podium places which saw an all-German lockout, with Francesco Friedrich winning his eighth world title.
Despite reduced ice time this season due to Hall's back injury in the early half of the season, Marine Lawrence and Hall's fourth place matches Britain's best two-man result in 58 years, with Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon finishing fourth in 2026 and Hall and Nick Gleeson taking the same position in 2019.
No British team has done better than fourth since Olympic champions Tony Nash and Robin Dixon won world championship bronze in 1966.
Both Marine Lawrence and Hall will go again in the four-man bobsleigh next weekend where they are the reigning world championship silver medallists from last year.
Piloting GB2, Royal Air Force Corporal John Stanbridge along with brakeman Jens Hullah finished 23rd on their World Championship debut.

Cpl Stanbridge's debut comes only 15 months after he suffered a broken neck in the Europa Cup competition in Altenberg, Germany, where he was told by doctors that he may never slide again.
The pair's 23rd place finish meant they missed making it through to the fourth heats, where only the top 20 sleds advance to, but they recovered well to be 19th quickest in heat three.
This year's World Championships takes place in Winterberg, Germany, from 22 February to 3 March.
