Spiders of Vilnius: Weaving camouflage for Kyiv's troops in Lithuania

Spiders of Vilnius: Weaving camouflage for Ukraine's defenders

They call themselves the Spiders of Vilnius.

People of all ages, who volunteer their time to weave lifesaving camouflage for Ukraine's defenders.

"I'm here since the end of 2023. I found information [about the organisation] in the internet and Facebook," Natalia Kushnir, a member of the group, said.

"So, since that time, we met a lot of people. So, it's like a family."

Mrs Kushnir is among a handful of Ukrainian volunteers; however, Lithuanians make up the bulk of the volunteers.

The group was set up just a few months after Russia's full-scale invasion, and since then, they've produced more than 1,000 nets.

They work from a small room tucked away inside a shopping centre in Vilnius.

There are Ukrainian military flags, plaques and badges – tokens of gratitude from the regiments and brigades they've helped to protect.

Once the camouflage is finished, the nets have to be rolled up in the shopping centre itself.

These volunteers have said that they'll continue for as long as these nets are required.

For the Ukrainian units receiving each of these, a special Christmas gift: a drawing by a seven-year-old, Ugne.

A message of innocence and hope amongst the horrors of war.
